“When you do something, you are making a statement. When you take a picture of something, you become part of the story. Some might say of my photos: wow, how ugly, but how great he got that shot. I think ugliness has its own strange, grotesque aesthetic. I say that the things I have photographed are beautiful. I haven’t openly made a declaration, but behind my choice of subject, behind the concept, there is a sort of statement.”
