EARTH, WIND & FIRE
G13 Art Gallery, 9th April – 15th May 2010
"strangers in the night & day"
Speach: Balazs Zsager (Žagar)
Three foreign artists devoted to Hungary for similar but yet different reasons, living here, raising their children – and of course creating ART. Our exhibition named after these three elements is based on the contept of Istvan Stojko.
Earth by Robin Sperling
Coming from London, the epicenter of capitalist western world and art he is turning towards the east, where he hoped to find closer connection to life. Not just the human-sized communities, but nature itself embracing him and his family functions as inspiration to his art. Living in the middle of the Puszta makes Robin Sperling’s art intertwined with natural processes – he is rather the cooperative conductive master of his self-finishing pieces containing earth, adobe, or plant extracts. Through revealing nature’s laws by time his new way of expression can be considered as an organic continuation of his mapping this world by the vertical and horizontal axes’ grids in his earlier work.
Wind by Yusuke Fukui
His ethereal art stands as representative of the element wind. Like Sperling, he is also likely to apply materials of nature directly in the process of painting, namely ashes and more recently a flower or just fallen petals of roses. The silhouettes of the symbols of love that is coming to an end appear against a cosmic, emotionally charged background which resembles of the clearest night skies. This floating atmosphere is also dominant in his works on paper bearing evident traces of his Japanese origins. Lately he has started working together with musicians.
Fire by Hans Bauer
Hans Bauer alias Oecsi, arriving from Switzerland, with Belgian and Hungarian origins gives an alternative of exposing an element not physically but from the inside of our human existence. Having studied psychology and experimenting with the mind he presents in iconic paintings and sculptures those entities which are yet unseen but still familiar, both resembling butterflies or flowers and flames. Just as his vivid, warm colors used in his paintings, also the shining metals which make up his sculptures associate his art with the element of fire.
