Although the SCSI-9 duo has been up there with the best of digital dance music the West has to offer, one cannot forget for a minute that they come from the homeland of Mr. Smirnoff. A few initiates had been lucky enough to catch a dawn set of Anton Kubikov by the Danube near Harta, but this is his classic Szkázi instrumental debut in Hungary. Looking at the boys after a gig, as they drop monosyllabic answers in a barely recognisable form of English for the local papers, one wonders if this ether-house and the vodka had ever been very far from each other. To us, this East is very familiar.”
BIO:
SCSI-9 is originally Anton Kubikov’s project, joined in 2001 by Maxim Milyutenko; together they sign 15 releases, with record labels such as Force Tracks, Trapez, Salo, Traum, Morris/Audio. In 2002 they write their first movie soundtrack, have their first live performance, and are invited to the legendary London club, Fabric.
Their first album is released in April 2003 by Force Tracks. Their latest was released by Kompakt, and they appear on parts 5, 6 and 7 of the famous ‘Total’ series as well as on the jubilee album ‘Kompakt 100’ with two remixes. SCSI-9 are on the track lists of the most prestigious remix series and anthologies selected by names like Michael Mayer, Andrew Weatherall, M.A.N.D.Y. or Craig Richards. They are represented by two tracks on Richards’ ‘Fabric 01’, moreover, his label Tyrant is releasing a SCSI-9 EP. The two quirky front men maintain a strong relationship with lyricist Peter Ivantsov, Anton Kochnev bass guitarist from D-Pulse and vocalist Ryba.
